5 Tips to Keep Your Teeth Clean During the Holidays

We know just how exciting the holiday season is. Between gathering with family and friends and snacking on the wide array of available snacks, the holiday season is the best. However, while we enjoy this wonderful season, your teeth might not.

Instead of leaving the holiday season with damaged teeth and gums, use our tips to keep your teeth strong and healthy this holiday season.

1. Brush 3 Times a Day

Yes, we say this all the time. But it is especially important during the holidays. With all of the parties, get togethers, shopping, and more, it can be all too easy to forget to brush your teeth. Remember to keep a consistent routine with your teeth – they’ll appreciate it far after the holidays are done.

2. Control Your Sugar Intake

Cookies. Candy. Soda. Hot Chocolate. Spiced Cider. Cake. Pie. The list of sugary holiday foods goes on and on. While we won’t tell you not to indulge your sweet tooth during the holidays, we will suggest that you limit your intake.

Always keep track of how much sugar you are eating during the holidays. Not only is it beneficial for your overall health, but it will reduce your chances of plaque, gum disease, and other oral health problems caused by sugar.

Of course, you can always opt for healthier sweet foods like fruit!

3. Drink Lots of Water

While we rely on water to survive, did you know it plays a vital role in your dental health? Water helps to eliminate dry mouth, rinse out unwanted toxins or leftover food items, and of course, keeps you hydrated.

After a few glasses of wine and a slice or two of pie at Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, you’ll want to drink enough water to keep you hydrated, healthy, and smiling bright all holiday season long.

4. Leave the Nuts to the Nutcracker

Have you ever seen someone crack open nuts with their teeth? There’s a reason the nutcracker was invented – and it’s not to dance in a ballet! Cracking nuts with your teeth can lead to serious gum and tooth damage. Your teeth are not built to perform this particular function.

Leave the nuts to the nutcracker this winter. Trust us, they do a better job at it than we do!
